Beard Bros Welcome Dinner at Mary Jane Berlin

Two guests converse in a lush outdoor cannabis garden during the Mary Jane Berlin Beard Bros dinner, surrounded by tall green plants in raised beds along a sunlit pathway

California cannabis culture — according to who?

The narratives and images are everywhere. But who’s actually telling the stories? Who gets access to shape culture?

We’re bringing a different perspective rooted in 1,800 years of history, beginning with Magu, the ancient Taoist hemp goddess of longevity. A high-touch experience that blurs the line between feast and education, aroma and memory, strangers and kin.

A culinary and sensory journey from California to Berlin. Guided by craft expertise. Powered by intentional gathering. Built on one belief: culture first.

This is California cannabis culture — hosted in Berlin, built for the world.

“As somebody who creates gatherings, it’s about asking, ‘What are you trying to achieve? What does the world need right now? What does our specific community need right now?’” says Chef Wendy Zeng, pioneering LA chef, community organizer, winner of Chopped 420 and culinary collaborator for an upcoming Beard Bros. Welcome Dinner at Mary Jane Berlin.

Gather around our table to experience an immersive sensory, culinary storytelling experience hosted by Chef Wendy Zeng, Colleen King, and Christina Wong that illuminates the healing roots of the cannabis plant and it’s global journey through food.

Tastemakers, culture shifters, critics, and competition judges. Known for hosting one-of-kind intentional gatherings where culinary meets cannabis in deliciously delightful ways.

It beginswith playful exploration of aroma, flavor, and mouthfeel guided by Ganjier and sourcing expert Colleen King. “Connoisseurship begins with attention: flavor, aroma, and the hands behind them. This experience brings that awareness to the table, shaping how cannabis culture is felt across borders.”

While enjoying bites of Chef Wendy Zeng’s Sichuan and global farm-to-table cuisine with educational cannabis pairings. “When you think about Traditional Chinese Medicine, a lot of it is holistic healing. A lot of it is about adaptogens and creating harmonious balance. And that’s why it made perfect sense that cannabis was also part of the earliest pharmacopeia books in traditional Chinese medicine. It’s always been in our culture, always been in our practice,” says Zeng.

Illuminated with rich storytelling and unheard stories of Magu, the immortal Taoist hemp goddess of longevity, by Christina Wong. “There’s ancient Taoist hemp goddess of longevity whose story and use of hemp as food and a healing elixir has been erased over time and reduced to birthday greetings to wish long life. As we learned and uncovered more about this deity Magu, we started finding more inspiration to reclaim and retell her stories through a modern lens.”
