What’s Happening?
On December 2, 2024, we are rallying at the DEA Museum, 700 Army Navy Dr, Arlington, Virginia, starting at 8 AM, with assembly beginning at 7:30 AM, for what will be the most historic cannabis hearing ever on rescheduling from Schedule I to Schedule III under the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).
We are demanding full descheduling, not rescheduling to ensure equal access and address the historical injustices of the failed War on Substances Act (CSA). Prohibition has led to discrimination in housing, healthcare, and the legal system, denying millions access to its well-documented therapeutic and proven medical benefits, despite minimal health risks.
With 43,654 comments submitted on the Federal Register for the DEA scheduling proposal—70% in favor of Descheduling not Rescheduling—and undeniable evidence of deception, like the recently uncovered recordings of Nixon placing cannabis on the CSA for political gain; it’s clear the tide is on our side. We need the people to show up!
De-schedule vs Re-schedule: Know the Difference
De-scheduling: Removes cannabis entirely from the Controlled Substances Act (CSA). Re-scheduling: Moves cannabis from Schedule 1 to Schedule III keeping it under the CSA and its penalties.
The Problem with Re-scheduling:
Re-scheduling cannabis will shift control to big pharmaceutical corporations and the federal government (such as the FDA) – both which have historically opposed legalization. This would harm small businesses and local growers, exploiting patients while prioritizing corporate interests. It perpetuates a system that creates the illusion of progress, maintaining penalties under the CSA.
Who Does De-scheduling Help?
Veterans: Full De-scheduling allows veterans to use cannabis for pain and PTSD without federal restrictions from the VA.
Cannabis Parents: Protects parents using cannabis medicinally protecting their children from federal interventions by child protective services.
Non-Violent Cannabis Prisoners: Provides a pathway to justice and the release of those imprisoned for nonviolent cannabis-related offenses.
Patients with Chronic Illnesses: Ensures affordable, unrestricted access to cannabis, empowering patients to choose effective treatments without corporate exploitation and federal barriers.
Minorities: Addresses the unfair treatment of communities of color during the Drug War and seeks to rectify its disproportionate and harmful impact on historically targeted and marginalized groups.
What Can You Do? If you care about this issue, join us! We owe it to those who suffered—beatings, incarceration, and lost lives—to ensure no one gets left behind. Organize with local advocacy groups, arrange charter buses, mobilize your networks, make donations, reach out to media outlets, and let’s demand for justice!
