Freedom Grow: The Original and Most Impactful Cannabis Prisoner Outreach Program

[Los Angeles, CA] – [3/13/2025] – For over a decade, Freedom Grow has been the leading and most impactful prisoner outreach program, dedicated to supporting nonviolent cannabis prisoners and their families. Founded by a coalition of passionate advocates, industry leaders, and formerly incarcerated individuals, Freedom Grow provides critical financial, emotional, and legal support to those serving time for cannabis-related offenses—many of whom remain behind bars despite changing laws and growing legalization efforts.

Unlike many other cannabis prisoner outreach programs, Freedom Grow ensures that the highest percentage of every dollar donated goes directly into prisoners’ commissary accounts, giving them access to basic necessities like food, hygiene products, and communication services. While other organizations focus only advocacy or policy, Freedom Grow delivers real, immediate assistance to the individuals who need it most. No other cannabis prisoner outreach program allocates more funds relative to total donations directly to incarcerated individuals or does more to improve their daily lives and well-being.

If you’re throwing an event or you’re a brand and looking for a non-profit to donate too and participate with…

Freedom Grow’s Unmatched Support Programs

Freedom Grow offers a wide range of initiatives designed to assist cannabis prisoners and their families:

  • The Commissary Fund: Financial assistance directly deposited into prisoners’ commissary accounts, helping them afford food, hygiene products, and essential goods.

  • Family Holiday Program: Ensuring the children of cannabis prisoners receive holiday gifts and financial support, keeping families connected and spirits lifted.

  • Letter Writing Program: Facilitating human connection through letters, so prisoners know they are not forgotten.

  • Clemency & Advocacy Efforts: Working with attorneys, lawmakers, and activists to advocate for clemency and release of nonviolent cannabis prisoners.

  • Re-Entry Support: Helping returning citizens transition back into society with resources and support.

  • Public Awareness & Fundraising: Bringing national attention to the injustices of cannabis incarceration through fundraising campaigns and media outreach.

“At Freedom Grow, our priority has always been the prisoners. Unlike other organizations, we ensure that a significant majority of donations go directly to them, instead of being absorbed by salaries and “overhead” costs,” said Randy Lanier Executive Board Member. “We are more than an advocacy group—we are a lifeline for those serving time for a plant that is now legal in much of the country.”

With tens of thousands of dollars distributed annually to prisoners and an ever-growing network of volunteers, supporters, and industry partners, Freedom Grow continues to lead the fight for justice, dignity, and freedom.
