What’s the biggest challenge facing the cannabis industry right now, and how are you and/or your company addressing it?
The biggest challenge right now is uncertainty. Regulations shift constantly, costs are high, and operators are left trying to plan a future with rules that may change next week. At Safe Harbor, I focus on helping operators gain more control over their financial picture. Better access to (better) banking, cash flow clarity, and better visibility into their overall finances give businesses an opportunity to make smarter decisions.
Where do you see the most exciting opportunity for growth and innovation in cannabis?
The next wave of innovation will come from behind the scenes. Financial infrastructure, payments, business operations, and technology that reduces friction and risk are where the biggest gains will happen. The future of cannabis is not only about products on shelves. It is about building strong businesses that can scale, reduce waste, and compete on more than just price.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone looking to break into the cannabis industry?
Be adaptable. This industry moves fast and rarely in a straight line. Success comes from staying curious, asking questions, and being willing to reinvent yourself when the market demands it. Also, relationships matter more than titles. Spend time learning from everyone… budtenders, inventory clerks, retail managers, cultivation, lab, sales, finance, marketing, senior management, stakeholders, vendors and, importantly, consumers.
What is the most important thing you have learned from your experiences in the cannabis industry?
I have learned that passion only gets you so far. The companies that win pair passion with discipline. They track performance, build operational strength, and embrace change instead of avoiding it.
What do you want your legacy to be as it relates to the cannabis industry?
That’s a tough one, as I’m a long way off from thinking about my legacy. But I do want to help build an industry that lasts. As a marketing guy in a financial services provider for cannabis businesses, if I can play a part in strengthening the financial foundation of this industry and help give operators more clarity and control over their businesses to help them succeed and create opportunity for others… that is a legacy I would be proud of.
