What’s the biggest challenge facing the cannabis industry right now, and how are you and/or your company addressing it?

The biggest challenge in the cannabis industry right now is the tax burden and the limited number of cultivation licenses. Between 280E and stacked state and local taxes, it’s tough to operate profitably, and with so few cultivators, supply is tight and prices stay high.We need to move to descheduling versus rescheduling so we can truly be treated like any other business and industry.

At Culture House, we’ve built our model around efficiency and adaptability. We keep our operations lean, focus on data-driven buying, and partner with a select group of cultivators to maintain consistency and quality. It’s about running smart and controlling what we can, staying flexible with what we can’t, and finding ways to thrive even in a system that’s not built to make it easy.

Where do you see the most exciting opportunity for growth and innovation in cannabis?

The biggest opportunity right now is getting more tech driven with how we run our businesses. The margins are tight, so using data and AI to work smarter, not just harder, is going to separate the ones who last from the ones who don’t. AI can help us see trends, manage inventory better, and make faster, more informed decisions.

But at the same time, this industry still runs on people and instinct. At Culture House, we use the data, but we still trust our old-school intuition. From what we see, to what we hear from customers, and what we know moves in our community. The sweet spot is combining both, the technology to stay sharp, and the human touch to stay real.

What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone looking to break into the cannabis industry?

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows, this industry will test you. The taxes, the regulations, the constant obstacles, it takes a lot of love to keep going. You’ve got to really care about the plant and the people to make it through. If you’re built for it and stay adaptable, it’ll challenge you, but it’ll also grow you.

What is the most important thing you have learned from your experiences in the cannabis industry?

You have to learn how to wear a lot of hats and always have another plan or route. The industry is very unpredictable and the only thing guaranteed is that nothing is guaranteed. Lastly, the grass is always greener wherever you water it.

What do you want your legacy to be as it relates to the cannabis industry?

I just want to help the industry get to where it deserves to be. Cannabis has so much potential, but the system hasn’t caught up yet. If I can play even a small part in helping it grow into something respected and sustainable, that’s the legacy I want to leave.
