What’s the biggest challenge facing the cannabis industry right now, and how are you and/or your company addressing it?
Economic slowdown, mergers/acquisitions, layoffs and the industry hasn’t been the same since prior to COVID. However, to generate revenue I’ve collaborated more with experts in different formats to find common ground and solutions to overall bottlenecks. Ie sourcing local labor and supplies versus waiting on overseas, creating more user friendly tutorials versus gatekeeping, thus creating better customer experiences and performance outcomes.
Where do you see the most exciting opportunity for growth and innovation in cannabis?
Listening to the workforce & manufacturers behind the scenes to spotlight and encourage better tech. Not only will it heighten work ethic/morale but it will bring about better quality of products. Productivity and products are ultimately the reflection of sound leadership. I think cannabis needs to refocus on that.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone looking to break into the cannabis industry?
Don’t quit your day job! Just kidding. But what you need to do is not get lost in trying to fit in. The most successful people are the ones that stick out. Innovate and work hard to save. Some people work for clout and free smoke but in 5-10 years will you have anything to show for it?
What is the most important thing you have learned from your experiences in the cannabis industry?
I’ve been grateful to experience many sectors of the cannabis space while in its infancy but the true pleasure is seeing the growth and evolution. I learn that most people like to stay static because it’s comforting to just clock in and out all the while “the Chads” come in, take advantage and disrupt. For better or worse. It’s no different than in any other industry. If you don’t like it do something to change it instead of complaining about it. Schooling isn’t for everyone but skillsets will always give you a leg up. Adaptability is key to survival.
What do you want your legacy to be as it relates to the cannabis industry?
I was one of the first to take a leap of faith and use my healthcare and retail pharmacy experiences to make a tangible contribution towards the legitimacy of cannabis. Even when testing and manufacturing I never lost sight of the patient/end user’s experience. I hope that even with the legalization of adult use, manufacturers and providers will still instill that same ethos. Tegridy is imperative!
