How Faven Lighting’s ‘Friendly Advice Wizard’ Uses Real World R&D to Empower Cultivators and Optimize Facilities

The phrase “Real Recognize Real” has deep roots in cannabis culture and is still a guiding gut feeling for some of the most successful brands operating in and around the weed scene to this day.

It certainly helps to explain the steady rise in popularity and use of Faven Lighting supplemental under canopy LED lights. Talking shop with their team reveals the hands-on cannabis cultivation experience they bring to every conversation and build into their game-changing, yield-boosting technology.

If you are following @FavenLighting on social media, you have witnessed their dedication to real world R&D with relentless A/B testing of their products on real, dank cannabis plants in a proper commercial grow op. You have had a front seat to watch them methodically compare crop results after altering everything from the spectrum intensities to placing their units parallel or perpendicular under the plants.

The face of those videos is the founder of Faven Lighting, Tim, a.k.a. @Bobby.Bagz, whose grassroots journey from Running Packs to Boosting Yields’ is yet another colorful thread woven into the fabric of cannabis culture. But behind the scenes, Faven’s Tech Support lead, Alex Gray, is earning respect and trust from his peers, both at work and in grow rooms across the country.

25 years old might seem a bit young for a wizard, but we aren’t talking about any ol’ wizard here. We are talking about Alex, the Friendly Advice Wizard from Faven Lighting. It says it right on his business card, which also lists him as an “all-around solid dude,” and you don’t have to take our word for that; you can ask anyone who deals with the dude day to day.

That starts with Tim himself, who bumped into Alex for the first time a few years ago, before Faven, while advising on a large-scale (700 light) grow. When we say “bumped into Alex”, that pretty much sums up the six months or so that they spent together on that project as Alex was always over his shoulder, always asking questions – good questions – and always outworking his peers. Known at the grow as the “Head of Problem Solving”, Alex was growing good weed, and his can-do attitude was growing on his new co-worker.

That advising project came to a close, but Tim saw promise in Alex as he considered future endeavors, like Faven. Alex eventually hit the job market, and Bobby.Bagz took him under his wing once again.

Faven Lighting Grows With Top Shelf Technology And Unrivaled Customer Service

When you call the customer service line for Faven Lighting, you’ll likely speak to Alex Gray or his protege, Dylan. If you reach Alex, there is a good chance you caught him between watering, or defoliating, or otherwise optimizing a full-scale, fully operational cannabis cultivation facility.

His office space is at the grow, and his hands are on the plants.

Though his job at Faven began with simple tasks like wiring cords, receiving inventory, and general customer service, his role has expanded to include tech support team lead, engineering advisor, R&D data collection extraordinaire, and, of course, Wizard.

Tim brought Alex onboard not only at Faven, but also with his ongoing cultivation advising business. After about a year and a half of trying to juggle both full time, Faven’s success demanded more time and energy from Tim, so he essentially handed the whole advising business to Alex Gray.

“I have never met a cultivator who doesn’t like Alex,” says Tim, “He could do anything here at Faven.”

Tim went on to explain that regulated cannabis markets have changed how we ought to look at age and experience when it comes to cultivating, saying “you can get your reps in so much faster now”. With the size of the operations that a young cultivator like Alex was working in, he could potentially go through 25 full harvests in 8-10 weeks, rather than the years and years it took many “old school” growers. He is still operating that advising business to this day, and his true relationship with the plant is evident to every Faven client who hits him up for help.

For someone as curious and organized as Alex, every cycle and chop provides a bounty of data and feedback about everything from genetics, to substrate, to feeding, to yields, and more… like lighting.

More importantly, how each of those variables factors into the full spectrum of a truly successful and sustainable cultivation operation.

So, when a grower reaches out to Faven for advice or brainstorming, they reach a peer, they reach one of their own. Alex isn’t reciting the owner’s manual to them, he is tapping into hundreds of harvests and frontline feedback to give accurate, actionable advice.

That old soul blend of curiosity, wisdom, and work ethic took Alex Gray from a cultivation tech to a damned Wizard and allows Tim to expand the Faven brand while Alex focuses on both product innovation and tech support – through a cultivator’s lens.

The organic evolution of Alex’s role at Faven mirrors the company’s overall grassroots growth and expresses itself in every authentic interaction he has with cultivators.

The future is LIT for Faven and for Alex Gray.

Alex Gray Is A Rare Gem In The Next Gen

Alex Gray grew up in a science-based household in the early 2000s, discovering a passion for plants and pharmacology at an early age.

You don’t need an A+ in math to figure out that if he’s 25 years old in 2025, he was in high school around the time that Prop 64 was making headlines here in California in 2016. Already a fan of cannabis at that point, he found a teacher who would let him explore and debate the topic, planting the seed for a future career. Alex graduated high school and went to college to study Horticulture, but it was in a 20-light weed grow in a friend’s garage that Alex really set his roots and got his education.

Around the age of 21 he landed at the facility where he would meet Tim, someone who finally matched his geek when it came to growing weed.

Today, Alex Gray still runs the advising business Tim/Bobby.Bagz bestowed upon him, and those cultivators are still stoked. Alex spends most days in a grow with hands on the plants, often utilizing those high stakes harvests as testing and proving grounds for Faven’s latest innovations.

Never a proponent of “optimal settings” or “one size fits all,” Alex works one-on-one with growers to draw up individual blueprints for success. He believes this constant collection and sharing of data will bridge the gap away from ‘Bro Science’ and level the playing field, leading to true competition of the best of the best in the marketplace.

Gray tells us, “My dream job is having a good time, growing great weed, and working with the best people in the world.”

Spoken like a true Wizard.

Up on a bulletin board in Bobby.Bagz’ office are three tenets for success that he feels Faven must follow:

  1. Provide excellent customer service

  2. Provide high quality tools to growers

  3. Faven = Trust

For Faven Lighting, all three just come naturally with an ‘All around solid dude’ like Alex on the crew.
