Back in August of this 2024, CEO Mark Zuckeberg of Meta admitted the Biden administration in 2021 pressured him into censoring content on his platform due to “safety concerns” Why is this important to cannabis pages now? Let’s start from the top.
Running a social media page for cannabis brands has become a special art form due to strict Meta “community guidelines” against cannabis. It seems like every other day cannabis accounts, business and personal, are being banned and deleted off the platform forever, in some cases simply just existing , or expressing their 1st amendment right.
Let me put my tin foil hat on for a second, IF Meta can choose who and what to censor by the power to be( as we learned in 2021), is it possible that the government/ or other corporations are trying to censor the cannabis movement via Meta due to “safety” or even “profit”? Like what is stopping Meta from taking sums of money from people or corporations to censor? The fact that they admit to censoring opens up the door to more questions than answers, unfortunately.
Another thing I find extremely odd/ disturbing about both Meta’s platforms is the fact how much porn and violence still manages to leak through these “community guidelines” that are extremely enforced on cannabis brand pages like you can watch people get STRAIGHT UP murdered on these platforms, but GOD forbidden you to post a picture of your outdoor cannabis crop. What is most disturbing about these violence/porn videos in the explore page is the fact that it is actually a form of desensitization usually used by predators, that frankly could reach ANYONE using the app.
As anyone would know the sort of mental “damage or trauma” someone can get from being desensitized to extreme violence and pornographic videos over a period of time or in some cases it could take 1 video to cause harm to certain demographics.
It’s truly sad to me at this point that I can see people shoot up drugs, see naked people, and see people get murdered on the Meta app on a daily basis, but Meta, for some reason, is coming after legal cannabis businesses that really aren’t doing anything “illegal” at all.
Since when did Meta’s community guidelines Trump America’s Constitution and 1st Amendment rights, ESPECIALLY when they continue to show actual illegal things and activities? Because in my opinion social media isn’t what you think, social media is basically a giant “think tank” to get everyone in one room and then try to influence the masses and one way by doing so is desensitization.
Hence why you see things like cannabis taken down every day because it makes us (some of us) think deeper and have free thoughts, while social media is on a path to desensitization for easier control of the masses and unfortunately, on top of that Ai will make that a easier than ever to the power at be.
Remember, now more than ever, what you see on the internet is not always real or true. Use your brain, your own thinking, and ask, does this actually make sense or do I need to do more research.
Worried about losing your cannabis social media and reaching your followers? Here are some tips:
1. Create a newsletter to keep your followers and friends updated
2. Create a website regularly drive to that
3. Take breaks! Kinda like an old school “tolerance break” let the algorithm forget about you for a second
4. Generic memes
5. Pictures of family, pets, anything that isn’t the thing that gets your flagged
6. Avoid patterns

Derek Shirley was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At the age of 19, he received a felony for 4 ounces of cannabis. After, he became a “cannabis nomad” living in Ohio, Arizona, and Maine, which he now calls home, and lives with his wife Sequoia and son Haze.
Being a cannabis nomad had its advantages, like relying on all markets for his medical cannabis needs which gives him a unique perspective of the cannabis markets. Currently, Derek operates People Not Parties Consulting, which helps local people and small businesses navigate their local and state governments without picking a political party specializing in protecting and preserving the small medical cannabis farmers of Maine. For fun, Derek enjoys screen printing and making cannabis memes under the pseudonym @gettinghighwithcats on IG.

The moment you agreed to their terms of service. Full stop. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
They can ban you for literally any reason because you literally agreed to that when you signed up.
Additionally the 1st amendment doesn’t protect you from corporations enforcing rules that limit what you say, kind of like a nondisclosure agreement limits your free speech.
