Planting Seeds of Sisterhood: NorCal Women in Cannabis Blooms Across Northern California

In a time when the cannabis industry often feels uncertain and siloed, Leah Cerri is building something rooted, radiant, and radically different. As the founder of NorCal Women in Cannabis, Leah has cultivated a space where women from all corners of the cannabis world—cultivators, creators, caregivers, and connectors—can gather to support each other, share their gifts, and simply be.

Each month, this roving sisterhood pops up in a new location across Northern California, from poolside potlucks in Marin to smoky sound baths in Ukiah lounges. What started as a small gathering in Leah’s kitchen has bloomed into a beloved series of monthly events that are completely free to attend—powered by community passion and the fierce belief that access to connection shouldn’t come with a price tag.

“At first, I wasn’t sure anyone would come,” Leah says, recalling that first vision board and yoga night she hosted in her home. “But the energy in that room was magic. It reminded me of why I fell in love with this industry in the first place.”

A Different Kind of Industry Event

Forget the stiff networking mixers and pay-to-play panels. NorCal Women in Cannabis events are alive with laughter, movement, and genuine connection. Attendees might sip on infused Bloody Marys at an old church-turned-cannabis social club, trade outfits at a clothing swap, or swap seeds to grow their own gardens at home. Breathwork circles, Reiki, pilates, and DIY workshops flow as freely as the joints.

“What’s most meaningful for me is seeing women step into their power,” Leah shares. “Like someone who’s never led a workshop before offering a cacao ceremony and seeing her confidence grow each time. It’s a safe space to try new things, to show up as you are.”

That authenticity is everything. Because in a legal market that often feels hostile to small brands—especially women-led ones—finding your people can be a lifeline. Leah started these gatherings when she herself was feeling disconnected and disillusioned with the industry. Hosting was a way to rekindle her own spark—and now, it’s become a bonfire that’s warming hundreds.

Community-Fueled and Fiercely Free

Perhaps the most revolutionary part? Every event is free.

“I just don’t believe in charging women for access to community,” Leah says. “These spaces need to be as accessible as possible. We all need them—especially now.”

To keep these experiences free and sustainable, Leah is calling in brands and allies who share her values. Event venues who can host, product sponsors, workshop leaders, and behind-the-scenes helpers are all part of the ecosystem that makes it work.

“It’s getting bigger than me,” she admits with a laugh. “I can’t be checking people in, teaching arts & crafts classes, and hosting all at once anymore!”Brands that want to walk the talk of equity in cannabis can step up and help fund these vibrant gatherings. Whether it’s sponsoring the dab bar, offering a product activation, or just donating funds to help cover costs, there are many ways to get involved—and Leah is open to collaborations that feel right. Currently, the series is being sponsored by PayRio.

A Space for Healing and Truth

Beyond the yoga mats and mocktails, these events are sacred spaces. Safe spaces. Leah sees them as sanctuaries for healing, especially in a field that can often feel exploitative.

“I’ve been to other women in cannabis events that didn’t feel welcoming,” she says. “I wanted to create something where it didn’t matter if you’re in the C-suite or working retail—where you feel seen, valued, and safe.”

That sense of safety is more than symbolic. Leah acknowledges the need for women to have spaces to warn each other about toxic actors, share experiences of sexism, and support one another through the rough patches that too often define this industry.

“Sometimes we just need to gather and mourn a little,” she says. “To say ‘this is hard’ and not have to explain why.”
