Second Annual Michigan Vlasic Classic Charity Golf Tournament Returns This Weekend to Benefit Freedom Grow and Last Prisoner Project

The Vlasic Classic is back for its second year in Michigan, bringing together cannabis industry leaders, advocates, and community supporters for a weekend of golf, networking, and giving back. Taking place on Saturday, June 28 at The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort Championship Course, the tournament aims to raise vital funds for Freedom Grow and the Last Prisoner Project, two nonprofit organizations dedicated to freeing cannabis prisoners and supporting criminal justice reform.

The Vlasic Classic has quickly become a standout charity event within the cannabis industry, blending sport and social impact to unite professionals and partners around a shared mission: ensuring that no one remains incarcerated for cannabis while the industry flourishes. Last year’s Michigan Classic drew hundreds of cannabis executives and raised significant donations, and this year’s event is expected to surpass that success.

This year’s Michigan Classic is made possible by the generous contributions of leading sponsors. UP-based retailer Higher Love returns as the diamond sponsor, alongside support from Kushy Punch, Dutchie, and Drip IV.

Media partners Cannabis Now and Beard Bros Pharms will be covering the day’s highlights, sharing stories and interviews that showcase the ongoing efforts to drive positive change in cannabis policy and social equity.

“We are thrilled to see the Vlasic Classic continue to grow each year. This tournament is about more than golf, it’s about showing that our industry stands together to right the wrongs of prohibition,” said Willy Vlasic, CEO of Vlasic Bioscience and organizer of the event. “Thanks to our incredible sponsors, media partners, and everyone who comes out to play, we are able to directly support organizations like Freedom Grow and Last Prisoner Project that make a real difference in people’s lives.”

The day will kick off with a morning reception where players, sponsors, and media can connect before taking to the greens for an 18-hole tournament. Following the round, participants will gather for an awards reception and closing remarks, highlighting the impact their donations will have on freeing and supporting individuals still paying the price for outdated cannabis laws.

Vlasic has already raised $15,000 from the event, which will be split between Freedom Grow, which provides commissary funds and support to people imprisoned for cannabis, and the Last Prisoner Project, which advocates for release, record clearing, and reentry support for those impacted by the criminalization of cannabis.
