Shen’s journey into the industry was not traditional. Initially an Asian American Studies major, he transitioned from making DIY vaporizers to running successful technology companies. His breakthrough moment came when a conversation on a ski lift with a boss resulted in an investment that enabled Shen to start his first official venture, VapeXcel, which won accolades such as the Cannabis Cup.

His experience in the tech sector taught him several key lessons about the cannabis market. After stepping away from the cannabis sector for three years, Shen turned his attention to personal growth through meditation and mindfulness practices, finding joy and balance in life’s complexities. Addressing the growing concern of burnout in high-pressure environments, he became a meditation coach, helping others navigate similar challenges.

Shen’s experiences taught him the value of reflection and intention-setting. Returning to the cannabis industry in 2023, he aimed to apply the insights he gained during his time away. He emphasized that businesses can thrive without sacrificing personal well-being and the values that inspired their founding.

In his view, mindfulness practices can pave the way for authentic leadership and innovation. “The second I don’t feel passionate about something, then it’s off to something new,” he stated, highlighting how aligning personal values with professional endeavors fosters genuine satisfaction in one’s work.
