Travel Tuesday Highlights Global Cannabis Tourism Developments

The cannabis industry continues its rapid evolution, with travel and tourism emerging as key pillars in the movement toward normalization and cultural acceptance. In a recent episode of Travel Tuesday, part of the Beard Bros Media Network, host Brian Applegarth brought together two influential voices—Veronica Vee Castillo, a traveling cannabis writer, and Monica Garcia, a pioneering cannabis entrepreneur based in Thailand—to discuss the current landscape and future possibilities of cannabis tourism worldwide.

The Passion Behind Cannabis and Travel

Veronica Vee Castillo, with over 200 published articles and six years documenting the industry’s growth, shared her journey from childhood love of travel in Florida to becoming a storyteller focused on cannabis equity, legacy, and culture. “Travel has always been a part of me,” she said. “Cannabis healed me from migraines, and that inspired me to tell the stories of the people, places, and history behind the plant, especially the hidden gems in the industry.”

Vee also recounted a poignant moment during a tour of California’s Emerald Triangle, where she connected deeply with legends like Walter from Soul Spirit. “That conversation—smoking and sharing stories—solidified my purpose as a journalist. It’s about leading with heart, sharing authentic stories, and highlighting the land and legacy that make cannabis special,” she reflected.

Thailand: A Land of Opportunity and Cultural Richness

Monica Garcia, a California native and international cannabis pioneer, described her transition to Thailand three years ago, where she now calls home. She emphasized how Thailand’s cannabis scene is evolving into a vibrant cultural and economic force. “Thailand has naturally grown cannabis for centuries. Now, with legalization, it’s creating thousands of jobs and opening doors for women and entrepreneurs,” she explained.

Garcia highlighted Thailand’s unique approach—combining medical access with social consumption. “Here, you can get a medical card easily as a tourist, buy flower with a COA, and even lounge and smoke in beautiful outdoor settings or on rooftops,” she said. “It’s a social, celebratory model that respects the plant’s cultural roots while offering modern convenience.”

Building Bridges Through Cannabis Tourism

Both guests discussed upcoming initiatives aimed at fostering international connections. V announced her upcoming 60-day trip to Thailand starting in January, where she plans to report on the country’s cannabis culture, build relationships, and highlight the land’s beauty—from bustling Bangkok to serene islands. “This trip is about creating a bridge between the US and Thailand, sharing stories, and building a global cannabis community,” she said.

Garcia and Vee envision immersive experiences—private dinners, storytelling sessions, media coverage, and a luxury gala celebrating global cannabis unity—to showcase Thailand’s rich culture and its emerging cannabis scene. “Traveling virtually alongside me and Monica will give people a front-row seat to this incredible journey,” Vee added.

The Vision for the Next Five Years

When asked to imagine the future of cannabis travel in five years, both experts painted optimistic visions. Veronica envisions a world where travelers can freely consume on hotel balconies, in lounges, and even at airports, with societal acceptance fully normalized. “Cannabis will be recognized as medicine and part of everyday life, not just a recreational or illicit activity,” she said.

Garcia hopes for more countries to follow Thailand’s lead in opening up and creating accessible, culturally rich cannabis destinations. “I want other nations to be examples of global normalization, where cannabis is integrated into wellness, tourism, and everyday life,” she asserted.

Supporting the Movement Through Media and Recognition

The episode also highlighted the importance of storytelling and media partnerships in shaping perceptions. Both women expressed excitement about collaborations with brands like Beard Bros, Marijuana Venture, and others, aiming to elevate stories of legacy growers, entrepreneurs, and advocates. Garcia announced plans to recognize Thailand’s industry pioneers with awards at a future gala, emphasizing the need to celebrate local achievements and foster recognition.

Looking Ahead: A Global Cannabis Renaissance

As the industry matures, the consensus is clear: cannabis travel and tourism are key drivers in the broader movement toward normalization and cultural acceptance. Both Vee and Monica believe that within the next five years, more countries will embrace the plant’s potential—blending tradition, leisure, and healing into a global movement.
