What Is 710? And What Does It Stand For?

The cannabis community is buzzing with excitement about the 710 holiday every year. But what exactly is 710, and why has it become so well-known among smokers?

710 (or July 10th) is a day for celebrating concentrates and oils in the cannabis industry. It’s an annual event that brings together dabbers, extractors, and concentrate fans and connoisseurs worldwide to celebrate their beloved products.

This holiday was born out of frustration with 420, which many felt had become too commercialized and mainstreamed. TaskRok of Highly Educated suggested an upside down anadrome for OIL – hence 710 – to differentiate between those who smoke regular flower marijuana and dabbers, extractors, and concentrate fanatics.

The celebration of 710 took off in the early 2010s when a famous LA Weekly article titled “710 is the new 420” was published on July 10th, 2013. This article shed light on the efforts of TaskRok and the guys from Healthstone and BeehiveOil, who had been pushing for a unique holiday to celebrate concentrates.

As more people began recognizing this day as an annual event celebrating cannabis oils, extracts, concentrates, and dabs, 710 quickly became commonplace in cannabis culture. To this day, it remains one of the most popular holidays among dab fans around the world.

What is 710? (And What’s Weed Got to Do With it?)

710 is a holiday celebrated by the cannabis community in honor of concentrates and oils, such as shatter, waxes, budder/batter, terp sauce, live resin, rosin, hash oil (BHO), bubble hash and dry sift hash. It has become popular among dabbers who no longer resonate with 420 due to its commercialization over the past decade.

710 also has symbolic meaning within many subcultures in the cannabis industry; for example, it is an acronym for “OIL” when inverted – symbolizing concentrates and extracts that can be vaporized or smoked via rigs like bubblers or e-rigs.

The celebration of 710 focuses on the appreciation of cannabis concentrates and dabs. The main benefit to smoking/vaping dab is its potency, as it can contain anywhere from 40%-90% THC content – far more significant than flower cannabis.

Additionally, there is a more immediate effect when using dabs compared to traditional smoking methods, so they are favored by many experienced smokers who want an intense high without having to smoke for more extended periods.

In terms of the types of dabs available for consumption, various options offer different flavors and levels of intensity.

Popular Types include Butane hash oil (BHO) including Cured and Live Resin, Bubble Hash including Cured and Live Rosin. Depending on the desired effect, selecting a particular type of dab that fits the user’s needs can be helpful – i.e., “sativa” for energy or “indica”/ hybrid for relaxation effects.

There is also an increasing availability of CBD-dominant dabs that offer medicinal benefits with less psychoactive effects than traditional cannabis concentrates.

The History of 710 and How It Came to Be

710 is a relatively new phenomenon in the cannabis industry, gaining traction in the early 2010s and continuing to grow in popularity ever since.

The exact origin of 710 is not clear, but it most likely began when TaskRok of Highly Educated suggested an upside down anadrome for OIL – hence 710 – as a way to differentiate between those who smoke regular flower marijuana and dabbers, extractors, and concentrate fanatics.

This suggestion was taken up by key players in the cannabis community, including the guys from Healthstone and Beehiveoil, who saw this as an opportunity to promote their products on a dedicated holiday that celebrated concentrates rather than flower marijuana.

This further helped push 710 into mainstream culture when LA Weekly released an article titled “710 is the new 420” that shed light on those involved in this up-and-coming holiday.

Since then, 710 has become a widely recognized and celebrated day for dabbing and consuming cannabis extracts and concentrates. There are now events taking place worldwide to celebrate these products on July 10th each year.

Various interviews with TaskRok of Highly Educated, members from Healthstone and BeehiveOil, and other key players in the cannabis industry have been conducted to document the origin of 710. These conversations were published in articles, podcasts, videos, and more – further cementing 710’s significance in the cannabis community.

In short, 710 has grown from obscurity to one of the most popular holidays among dab fans worldwide due to its “upside down anadrome” origin and LA Weekly article that shed light on those involved in pushing for a special holiday dedicated to celebrating concentrates. It is now celebrated by cannabis enthusiasts worldwide, with dab-focused events taking place annually.

How Can You Celebrate 710?

Celebrating 710 is relatively simple and accessible. For those who prefer to celebrate at home, there are a variety of different ways to partake in this holiday.

The most popular methods include purchasing pre-filled carts or disposable dab pens or investing in an e-rig which is a device that heats up for vaping extracts like shatter or waxes. There are also portable vaporizers that come with concentrate pods that can be used on the go. Additionally, glass pipes and bubblers are available for smoking as well.

For those looking to celebrate 710 outdoors, several options are also available. Portable dab rigs are now on the market, which provide a safe and efficient way to consume dabs in public areas. There is even hardware that allows for dabbing at festivals or other large gatherings, so no one has to miss out on the festivities!

For virtual celebrations, many companies have put together online events such as webinars or live Q&As with industry professionals discussing various topics related to 710.

Additionally, cannabis consumers can join forums and communities that celebrate this holiday through group activities or collaborative photo/video projects.

When dabbing, for those who are new, it is crucial to understand their potency. It is best to start with a small dose and go from there, as people can become too high or uncomfortable if they take too much on their first try.

710 allows cannabis consumers to celebrate the extracts and concentrates available in the industry today. Depending on one’s preference and comfort level, there are various ways to partake in this holiday, including at-home celebrations, outdoor gatherings, and virtual events.

With the proper knowledge and preparation, 710 can be an enjoyable and memorable holiday for everyone!
