According to reports from Kevin and those advocating on his behalf, his INR reading was so dangerously elevated that the hospital testing equipment could not measure beyond 10, leaving doctors scrambling to bring his levels down.
For patients with unstable clotting disorders, situations like this typically require close monitoring and specialist supervision. Yet despite the severity of his condition, Kevin was discharged from the hospital and returned to the prison facility rather than being transferred to FMC Butner, the federal medical center specifically equipped to treat incarcerated individuals with complex and life-threatening medical needs.

Returning to prison did not mark the end of Kevin’s health crisis. According to his own reports, the symptoms that brought him to the hospital have continued to plague him since his discharge.
Kevin has described experiencing persistent chest pain, severe weakness, difficulty breathing, numbness in his face and legs, and frequent episodes where he feels close to fainting. For someone with a recently documented INR level above 10, these symptoms represent warning signs that cannot be ignored.

According to Kevin, however, his seizure medication was discontinued after his most recent hospital discharge. When he reportedly approached the medication line and asked about the status of his prescription, he was told that he would no longer receive it.
Abruptly stopping epilepsy medication can significantly increase the risk of seizures and neurological complications. For Kevin and his family, the fear is that his condition is not being managed with the care and attention it requires.
