New Study Shows Benefits of Ayahuasca Outweigh the Risks

The world of holistic healing and alternative medicine has seen some positive news lately, with a recent study by the University of Melbourne revealing the benefits of the psychoactive brew, Ayahuasca.

According to news reports, the recent study evaluated data obtained from an Online Global Ayahuasca Survey. Results of the survey analysis showed that 88 percent of 10,836 people surveyed considered such mental health effects from Ayahuasca usage as part of a positive process of growth or integration.

Rising Popularity Sees Rising Public Health Questions Regarding Risks And Benefits

Ayahuasca, a psychoactive-hallucinogenic brew made of Psychotria viridis shrub leaves and Banisteriopsis caapi vine stalks, has moved from ancient Amazonian tribes into everyday society. The plant has gained popularity in recent years thanks to its health benefits and contribution to personal and spiritual growth.

Fortunately, the medical world and academic surveys are now catching on to the latter and realizing that the benefits outweigh the risks and adverse health effects sometimes experienced.

These online studies, particularly the one conducted by the University of Melbourne, reveal the positive health effects of older generations with physical health conditions or prior substance use disorder at initial use.

This study mentioned that the mental health effects were positively associated with health conditions and anxiety disorders. Furthermore, the use of Ayahuasca in this generation group strengthened acute spiritual experience.

With this, the study justifies the use of Ayahuasca with benefits far outweighing any adverse effects, despite survey participants experiencing some negative health effects.

As more studies and surveys show a risk/benefit balance and science validates the potential for Ayahuasca to heal physical and mental ailments, it is hoped that policymakers will consider all this in their decisions to regulate this plant.
