Beard Bros Pharms Emerald Cup Classification SystemHas the seemingly never-ending pandemic got you down?

Does all the crazy media coverage stress you out?

Are you just fed up and want to get high?

Then you should pop some magic mush and zone out because studies have shown that psychedelics, like psilocybin and MDMA, have made the pandemic infinitely more tolerable for users.

Magic Mushrooms Can Treat Major Depression

It’s no surprise that the pandemic has caused increasing mental health issues. The worldwide lockdowns have taken their toll on all of us. Prolonged social isolation is brutal, even for those who prefer to be alone.

In 2016, a Johns Hopkins research study found that psilocybin – the psychoactive chemical that makes those mushrooms “magic” – had an amazing effect on people diagnosed with major depressive disorder. By the end of the study, over half of the participants had been considered in remission from their major depression.

But that’s just a quick anecdote and doesn’t really have anything to do with the pandemic. Here’s the thing though, another study in the Netherlands, conducted during the pandemic, found that taking shrooms relieved the stress of isolation during the lockdowns. 3000 people from around the world, whose psychedelic use ranged from lifetime users to non-users, were studied, and the results found that the lifetime users of psychedelics had less stress and more social support during the lockdowns. They spent more time outdoors, had healthier diets, and had all-around healthier lifestyles than non-users, who spent their time indoors doom-scrolling social media and panicking over media coverage.

Psychedelic Use on the Rise, Drinking Declines During Pandemic

With bars and restaurants closed, social butterflies had to find other ways of connecting and staying social during lockdowns to stave off isolation. One of the ways Gen Z did that was by microdosing psychedelics like mushrooms, LSD, DMT, and MDMA. Some have started online discussion groups where they dose and chat about their experiences, while others have joined groups like the Aware Project: Los Angeles Psychedelic Society, which has seen a huge boost in membership during the pandemic.

From nurses, to tradespeople, to senior citizens, it seems everyone is jumping on the psychedelic bandwagon to help with stress relief, or just being able to handle the stress of the pandemic better. And it makes sense. Since the 60s, there have been studies surrounding the incredible effects of psychedelics on mental health. Nowadays, those studies are back in full swing, and it won’t be long before we see more people turning to psychedelics to help with depression, anxiety, and even PTSD.
